MARCH GOES OUT LIKE A LAMB
Chopin Celebration and The REBEL Baroque Ensemble
Shepherdstown, WV- Commemorating the 200th birthday of Frederic Chopin, A Chopin Celebration Concert featuring Dr. Scott Beard with Shepherd Alumni and Faculty will be performed on Friday, March 26. Beard, a nationally recognized and acclaimed pianist, teacher, author and recording artist, has performed in concert and as a soloist throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
As part of the 2009 - 2010 Friends of Music Concert Series, the Chopin Celebration will be held in the Frank Center on the campus of Shepherd University. Dr. Rob Northrup is president of the Friends of Music Board of Directors. “Scott Beard was recently named one of the five finest professors in West Virginia. His performing is a big part of that ability to teach. Chopin is among his favorite composers and this concert will be a welcome opportunity to see Scott do what he does so well -- inspire those who listen to him.”
Immediately following the concert the audience is invited to a reception in honor of Dr. Beard. The event will be held in the Frank Center, room M-21.
Wednesday, March 31, The Rebel Baroque Ensemble will perform in concert at the Frank Center. The New York-based ensemble has well-earned international reputation for their unique style and highly provocative approach to the Baroque and Classical repertoire. Called by the New York Times “sophisticated and beguiling,” REBEL is in residence at the historic Trinity Church in the Wall Street district and collaborates with the Trinity Choir on a range of work of masters including Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Handel.
Dr. Mark McCoy, chair of the Shepherd University Music Department said “We are thrilled to welcome the Rebel Baroque Ensemble to Shepherdstown. The group presents music of the highest caliber in an innovative and exciting way. This will be the most unique concert of the season!”
