SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - Lauren Frick, Shepherd University student, has been invited to study at the world famous Salzburg College in Austria and attend the Salzburg Festival.
Frick, a native of Shippensburg, PA, is the daughter of Wendy and Bruce Frick and a graduate of Shippensburg Area Senior High School. Her area of study at Shepherd University is Vocal Performance and she has been recognized for her extraordinary operatic talent throughout her college career.
The Salzburg summer session (July 16 - August 18) at The University of Miami, Frost School of Music at Salzburg will focus Frick on opera, lieder and German language study. Frick will be staying with a host family, taking master classes with international guest artists, attending operas and concerts and be given the opportunity to perform.
The Salzburg Festival began in one theater in 1920. It was founded by director Max Reinhard upon his staging of Hofmannsthal’s "Everyman." Today the Festival has grown into the world-famous annual event that down through the years has been enjoyed by millions.
Frick’s acceptance in the highly competitive program was announced on March 13, by Dr. Mark McCoy, chair of the Shepherd University Department of Music, at the Friends of Music “Lunch with Friends.” The lunch is the prelude to the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra concerts, Frick said “Salzburg is going to be an opportunity of a lifetime and I can't wait” She thanked Friends of Music, for “supporting the arts in a time when they are suffering the most.”
